The p24 protein is one of the major structural proteins of HIV-1 lentivirus particles. p24 protein is a product of the transcription and translation of the gag gene and plays an important role in the packaging and maturation process of HIV-1 lentivirus. p24 protein's amino acid sequence is highly conserved among all types of plasmids of HIV-1 lentiviruses, and deletion of the p24 protein results in the inability of lentivirus to assemble properly.
